The Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) in collaboration with the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania is organizing the Fifth Statutory Meetings of the Peace and Security and Democracy and Good Governance Committees from 26 to 29 March 2019, in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
The Forum of Parliaments of the ICGLR is an Inter-Parliamentary Organization, bringing together 12 countries of the Great Lakes Region, including Angola, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.
The main objective of the FP-ICGLR is to make a significant parliamentary contribution to the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.
The meetings will be held within the framework of the implementation of the FP-ICGLR Strategic Plan 2017-2021 and Action Plan 2019-2020 and will focus on the political, security and humanitarian situation of the ICGLR member countries, in particular the Republic of Burundi, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of South Sudan; the management of security at the common borders with a particular focus on the cross-border movement of people; the report of the election observation mission carried out from 17 December 2018 to 2 January 2019 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Finally, there will be a debate on the selected research theme “Participatory and Representative Democracy in ICGLR Member States: Normative Approaches and Perspectives.
These meetings will be attended by parliamentarians who are members of the two Committees.
