
The Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region aims to:
- To serve as a forum for dialogue, exchange of experiences and conflict resolution between the parliaments of the ICGLR Member States;
- Strengthen the capacities of parliamentarians and officials of member parliaments in terms of legislation, oversight of government action and representation of the peoples of the region;
- Support the efforts of governments in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, and actively contribute to the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation processes;
- Support the implementation of UN resolutions on the protection of the rights of women, children and vulnerable persons in armed conflict;
- To promote democracy, human rights, fundamental freedoms, as well as the organization of free, fair and transparent elections, and good governance in member countries;
- Promote the harmonization of national policies with the action programmes and projects developed within the framework of the ICGLR;
- Ensure the effective integration of the protocols of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development into the domestic legal orders of the Member States;
- Encourage the active involvement of national parliaments in the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the Pact;
- Contribute to the resolution of conflicts that may arise within parliaments or between ICGLR Member States.
