Kinshasa, July 19, 2021: The Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) is organizing the Eighth Statutory Meeting of the Committee on “Peace and Security” on July 22nd, 2021. This meeting will take place by video conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, UTC or 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Kinshasa time.
The FP-ICGLR is an inter-parliamentary organization composed of 12 National Parliaments of the ICGLR Member States namely the Republic of Angola, the Republic of Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of South Sudan, the Republic of the Sudan, the United Republic Tanzania, the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Zambia.
The main objective of the FP-ICGLR is to make a significant parliamentary contribution to the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.
Whereas the Forum and Member-Parliaments have made contribution in conflict resolution in the Great Lakes region, much more is needed for this contribution to be more effective, more so with inter-state conflicts.
It is within this context that the Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) plans to organize the 8th Statutory Meeting on Peace and Security via video conference on July 22nd 2021 to deliberate on the role that Parliaments can play in resolving conflict in the Great Lakes Region. A research report titled “The Role of Parliament in Conflict Resolution in the Great Lakes Region: Way Forward” will be presented as a basis for the discussion.
The meetings will be attended by Parliamentarians who are nominated to serve in the Committee on “Peace and Security”
