Press release of the 11th Ordinary Session of the Forum of Parliaments of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR)

Kinshasa, April 27, 2021: The Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) is organizing the Eleventh Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly/Conference of Speakers in May 7th, 2021. The meeting will take place by video conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The FP-ICGLR is an inter-parliamentary organization composed of 12 National Parliaments of the ICGLR Member States namely the Republic of Angola, the Republic of Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of South Sudan, the Republic of the Sudan, the United Republic Tanzania, the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Zambia.

The main objective of the FP-ICGLR is to make a significant parliamentary contribution to the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.

The Plenary Assembly is the supreme organ of the FP-ICGLR. In accordance with Article 6 of the Inter-parliamentary Accord Establishing the FP-ICGLR signed in Kigali, as amended to date, the Plenary Assembly is competent to deliberate on all matters falling within the scope of the Forum.

The 11th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly / Conference of Speakers will focus on the current Political, Security and Humanitarian situation in the ICGLR Member States, the adoption of the report of the 10th Ordinary Session of the Plenary Assembly, and the approval of the 22nd Executive Committee’s report on FP-ICGLR activity and financial report for 2020, action plan and budget for 2021 and the audit report for the years 2019-2020.

The Plenary Assembly/Conference of Speakers will be preceded by 22nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Committee on 5th May 2021. The Executive Committee will review and approve the agenda and the topics to be discussed in Plenary as well as handle other internal content.
