The Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) has dispatched a delegation to participate in a Joint Election Observer Mission (EOM) with the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) to observe the general elections in the Republic of Kenya scheduled to take place on 9th August, 2022.
The FP-ICGLR is an inter-parliamentary organization composed of 12 National Parliaments of the ICGLR Member States, namely; the Republic of Angola, the Republic of Burundi, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the Republic of South Sudan, the Republic of the Sudan, the United Republic Tanzania, the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Zambia.
The main objective of the EOM of the FP-ICGLR/ICGLR will be to assess how the electoral process meets the ICGLR Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance and other instruments, inter alia, the African Union Charter on Democracy, Elections and Good Governance, the international standards regarding the organization of elections, and also the Constitution and the electoral laws of the Republic of Kenya, and how it reflects the true will of its people.
The Mission will be composed of Parliamentarians and officials from the ICGLR Member States, the Executive Secretariat of the ICGLR and the General Secretariat of the FP-ICGLR.
The Mission will have a series of meetings with representatives of the Kenyan Executive, Judiciary, Political Parties, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the media, Women and Youth, Civil Society Organizations, among others.
