The Women in Governance Forum of the FP-ICGLR has launched an ambitious new initiative aimed at significantly increasing women's participation in parliamentary and governance processes across the Great Lakes Region.
Initiative Objectives
The new program focuses on:
Capacity building for women parliamentarians
Mentorship programs for emerging female leaders
Policy advocacy for gender-inclusive legislation
Research on barriers to women's political participation
Expected Impact
The initiative aims to achieve 50% women's representation in parliamentary positions across member states by 2030, with interim targets set for 2027.
Training programs will be conducted in partnership with international organizations and will cover leadership skills, policy development, and effective governance practices.
