Key Objectives of the Forum
The Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is committed to achieving the following objectives:
Dialogue & Exchange
To serve as a forum for dialogue, exchange of experiences and conflict resolution between the parliaments of the ICGLR Member States
Capacity Building
Strengthen the capacities of parliamentarians and officials of member parliaments in terms of legislation, oversight of government action and representation of the peoples of the region
Conflict Resolution
Support the efforts of governments in the prevention and resolution of conflicts, and actively contribute to the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation processes
Rights Protection
Support the implementation of UN resolutions on the protection of the rights of women, children and vulnerable persons in armed conflict
Democracy & Human Rights
To promote democracy, human rights, fundamental freedoms, as well as the organization of free, fair and transparent elections, and good governance in member countries
Policy Harmonization
Promote the harmonization of national policies with the action programmes and projects developed within the framework of the ICGLR
Legal Integration
Ensure the effective integration of the protocols of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development into the domestic legal orders of the Member States
Implementation Monitoring
Encourage the active involvement of national parliaments in the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the Pact
Conflict Resolution
Contribute to the resolution of conflicts that may arise within parliaments or between ICGLR Member States
